Sagging Roof
A dip in the roofline can be long-standing and stable, or a sign of an active structural problem. Only an inspection can tell.
Possible causes
- Timbers weakened by long-term damp or rot
- A heavier covering fitted than the structure was designed for
- Removed or undersized structural members
- Spreading of the roof structure
Warning signs
- A visibly dipping ridge or slope
- Cracks in top-floor ceilings or walls
- Doors upstairs sticking
How it's usually fixed
- Investigating the timbers and their condition
- Strengthening or replacing timbers
- Advising where a structural engineer is needed
When to call a roofer
Book an inspection promptly. We may recommend a structural engineer's opinion for significant movement.
This page describes possible causes only. We can't diagnose your roof without inspecting it.
